South Africa edge Pakistan for Doha title

South Africa players and team officials celebrate after winning the Qatar Women’s International Championship title at West End Park Stadium in Doha yesterday. Mana Ibrahim Al Mana, Chairman West End Park, gave away the prizes. South Africa beat Pakistan in the final. The third team in the tournament was Ireland. The three teams will now play a T20 series at the same venue starting tomorrow.
DOHA: South Africa yesterday beat Pakistan by four wickets to lift the inaugural Qatar Women’s International Championship title after a tense final.
Backed by solid batting from S Loubser, South Africa chased down a modest total of 95 after Pakistani batters failed to hit their form at West End Park Stadium.
Earlier, Loubser picked up two wickets to round up a great performance.
Pakistan failed to impress with the bat with only three players reaching double figures.
Opener Javeria Khan topped with 30. Bismah Maroof (12) and Nida Dar (11) were the other players to reach double figures.
Saouth Africa’s S Ismail picked up three wickets while M Daniels dismissed two batters.
In reply, T Chetty (13), M Kapp (15) and A Fritz (19) chipped in with useful contributions to set up South Africa’s big win.
South Africa reached their target for the loss of 6 wickets in 43.3 overs.
For Pakistan, Sumaiya Siddiqi and Nida Dar picked up two wickets each in a losing cause.
