Raynard wins round 2 of Losail MX Championship

DOHA:  South African rider Anthony Raynard yesterday won the second race of 2013 Losail MX Championship round 2 at Losail MX Track.

The Yamaha rider crossed the finish line 36.830secs ahead of round 1 winner Dennis Stapleton of the US.

Stapleton, who won race 1 of the second round on Friday, led the race in the first two laps but gave way to Raynard in the third.

The South African rider maintained his position and crossed the finish line ahead of 30 other riders. A total of eight riders registered for the race but did not start. The third rider to cross the line was Livia Lancelot of France.

Lancelot was 1min 13:285secs adrift of Raynard.

The Rockstar Bud Racing Kawasaki rider and Raynard were competing in the MX2 category whereas Stapleton rides in the MX1 category.

In the MX1 category, the winner was Stapleton. Sean Gaugin from the UAE and Olivier Eveleigh of Great Britain finished second and third respectively.

“The track was unbelievable today. I had some bike troubles so I didn’t qualify for MX 1,” Raynard said after his win yesterday. 

“Next time I hope to make it. It was good though. I enjoyed my session,” he added.

Stapleton said: “I and Anthony had a good battle. It was not a bad weekend for me in Qatar.”

In the MX2 category, the winner was Raynard while Lancelot placed second, a notch ahead of Ross Runnals of South Africa.

In the MX2 overall standings, Hassan Ahmed of Bahrain leads the pack with a tally of 85 points after two rounds.

Abdullah Al Shatti of Kuwait is second with 82 points while Barak AlJasmi, also of Kuwait, is third with 75 points.

In the MX1 overall standings, Stapleton leads the points race with a tally of 100.

Moath Al Ansari of Kuwait (77) and compatriot Mishary Abou Shaibah (74) are second and third respectively.
