DOHA: Al Arabi recorded a huge 94-60 victory over Al Ahli to claim their second straight victory in the Qatar Basketball League (QBL) at Al Rayyan Sports Club yesterday.
With the efforts of Alvin Mofunanya, the basketball player paced Arabi to insurmountable margins.
In the second period, the score was 59-29 and 79-41 in the third.
Mofunaya and William Byrd registered double-doubles and combined for 43 points and 41 rebounds to assert Arabi’s dominance in the paint. Their efforts contributed to a 34-point margin at the final buzzer.
Menawhile, Fadi Abilmona rallied Eljaish to a 76-64 victory over Al Gharafa.
The result gave Eljaish their second win in QBL.
Both teams fought in the first period exchanging leads before Eljaish closed the first 10 minutes with an advantage at 21-19.
Al Gharafa played harder in the second quarter and stormed to a six-point advantage at 37-31, which was led with the efforts of Abdulrahman Saad. Eljaish rallied back but Ali Abdullah gave Al Gharafa some breathing space at 41-38 on a strong drive just before the half-time buzzer.
Eljaish strung up six unanswered points to pull ahead 44-41 in the first three minutes of the third set.
But Al Gharafa came back to regain the lead at 49-48.
The QBL match schedule will resume on Satuday G at the Al Rayyan Indoor Arena.
Among the club to play on Saturday are Al Wakrah and Al Shamal.
Both clubs will be trying to get their first wins of the season, and will face each other in the opening match at 5.00pm.
In the second match, Al Rayyan will clash against Qatar SC.
The match will take place at 7.00pm.
On Sunday, Eljaish will be able to grab another win when they play Al Sadd at 5.00pm
In the other clash to take place on Sunday, Al Arabia face Al Gharafa at 7.00pm.
