DOHA: The Qatar National Day Organising Committee in cooperation with the Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Interior will host a cultural performance contest for students of expatriate schools and a mega quiz competition for the public today from 3.30pm to 9.30pm at the Ahmed bin Hanbal school, beside Crowne Plaza hotel in Najma area.
This edutainment programme, which will see the participation of about 530 students from 12 Asian schools in Qatar, is aimed at educating the students and the public on the history, culture, customs, traditions and Islamic values of Qatar. The programme will comprise a ‘cultural performance competition for school students’ on the theme ‘Qatar’s past, present and future’ and a ‘Quiz competition for school students and general public’ on the founder of Qatar, history of Qatar police and Ministry of Interior (MoI) and general knowledge on Qatar, especially in the fields of security, sports, economy, customs and traditions.
The MoI will also show security and safety focused awareness films. The cultural performance competition will focus on the lifestyle of Qataris in the olden days such as fishing, pearl diving and pearl trading and showcase the old and modern Qatar.
The first, second and third prize winners of the ‘Cultural Performance Competition’ will get special National Day trophies and QR10,000, QR5,000 and QR3,000 respectively and all the 12 participating schools will get National Day mementoes, while the winners of the quiz competition, which is open for all who attend the programme, including performance team members, parents and general audience, will get valuable prizes.
The public are invited to watch the performance competition and to participate in the quiz contest. The organising committee has allocated about 100 prizes for the winners in the quiz and the general audience who will be selected through a draw. Seats will be served on a first come first serve basis.
Participating schools include Pakistan Education Centre, Bhavan’s Public School, Shantiniketan Indian School, Noble International School, MES Indian School, Bright Future Pakistani School, Ideal Indian School, Pak Shama School and College, Philippines International School, DPS-Modern Indian School, Doha Modern Indian School and Birla Public School.
