DOHA: The fourth General Conference of the Arab Union of Electricity and Exhibition will take place here from January 7 to January 9, next year.
The conference will concentrate on new technologies for the transmission and distribution of electric power, and the importance of developing and exploiting renewable energy resources in the Arab world.
The conference will be accompanied by a specialised exhibition and a number of other events, including a seminar on “investment opportunities in the electrical industries in Arab countries.”
The meeting of the Executive Council of Arab Electricity Ministers, the celebration of the Silver Jubilee of the Arab Union of Electricity and the succession of the chairmanship of the Arab Union for Electricity from Tunis to Qatar will also take place during the three-day event.
The conference and associated events are organised by the Arab Union of Electricity, the Arab League and the Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa), in cooperation with Interactive Business Network.
The conference gains significance in view of the leading role of the Arab Union of Electricity in the Arab electricity sector, the level of official attendance at the conference, and the expected contribution of public sector enterprises and companies in its deliberations and the associated events, said Kahramaa president Eng Essa Al Kuwari addressing a press conference yesterday.
Raed Chehaib, the Chief Executive Officer of Interactive Business Network and representatives of the sponsoring companies were also present.
Chehaib announced the launch of the special conference website which provides all the necessary information and news about the event, as well as an online registration facility.
The website address is www.cauedoha2013.com. Registration fee is nominal and a special fee is available for all university students in Qatar and the Arab world.
The topics to be discussed by the conference include:
Restructuring the electricity sector in the Arab countries; Encouraging investment in the electricity sector through IPP (IPP) Smart grids, distribution networks maintenance, demand side management, and energy conservation; Loss reducing in electricity systems (generation, transmission, and distribution); Renewable energy sources and how to connect them to the grid; Quality and service management in electricity distribution: Customer satisfaction, customer information system and performance indicators; Nuclear power for electricity generation in the Arab countries: potential and projects; and Training to build new cadres in electricity sector.
