DOHA: Qatar is all set to celebrate Eid Al Adha tomorrow. Eid prayers will take place at various mosques and special prayer grounds across the country at 5.55am, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs has said.
The Ministry has arranged a total of 277 mosques and prayer grounds in different parts of the country for the early morning prayers. Of these 21 places will have special arrangements for women.
Some expatriate groups have also organised Eid prayers, with translation of the Eid sermon in their native languages. A large number of expatriates from the respective communities are expected to attend such congregations.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning has urged people not to slaughter the animals outside the abattoirs set up by different municipalities. Animal sacrifice is an important ritual of Eid Al Adha.
The Ministry has deployed inspectors to ensure that the animals are not slaughtered at houses and public places, which can pose risks to public health and hygiene. It has also launched a campaign to raise awareness on this issue.
Different municipalities have also intensified inspections at groceries, hypermarkets, fruit and vegetable shops, restaurants, barber shops and beauty salons to ensure that they comply with the health regulations.
All these outlets are expected to witness a huge rush during the Eid holidays.
All the ministries, schools and government departments will remain closed today, with the beginning of the official Eid holidays in the country.
Several private companies are also starting their holidays from today.
Many parts of the city witnessed heavy traffic jams last evening, with people going on a shopping spree ahead of Eid.
All major shopping centres have come out with attractive promotions to win customers.
