DOHA: The General Directorate of Civil Defence (GDCD) launched its “safe home” awareness campaign with its first meeting for residents of the Old Airport Area.
The event was attended by director of Prevention Department at the GDCD, Brig Aman Saad Al Sulaiti, Deputy Chief of Central Municipal Council (CMC) Jassim Al Maliki, CMC member representing the Old Airport area ( (constituency 9) Shiekha Jufairi and Assistant Director of Prevention Department at GDCD Col Ibrahim Abdul Rahman Al Muftah.
The campaign aims at creating public awareness on preventive safety and security procedures with cooperation from CMC members, citizens and residents.
Ibrahim Al Muftah said that the objective of ‘Safe Home’ is not only to reduce accidents but also spread the culture of safety among the community members.
“The awareness starts from the individual, then moves to family, neighbours, work place and his surroundings and by the way spread to the whole nation,” said Al Muftah.
He added that Civil Defence is very much interested in collaborating with different institutions and authorities in the country to build a safer life for the people. He hoped that the first meeting would give insight to steps needed to be taken in other areas.
Al Maliki welcomed the initiative and stressed the importance of cooperation between the Ministry of Interior and CMC in raising public awareness on such issues. Sheikha Jufairi also thanked the Ministry for its efforts in this dierection.
Head of media and education section at GDCD Maj Hussain Aman Al Ali presented details of the project. The initiative is launched after a detailed study and as the first step, CMC members were briefed on it.
In the second phase, a committee will be formed in all the constituencies for this purpose. The programmes include a media campaign using radio, TV, Arab and non-Arab newspapers in addition to lectures, seminars, discussion forums and mock drills. Friday sermons, classes at mosques and poetry sessions will be also utilised to spread the message of the campaign. Contests, training courses and a film show will also be held. A vehicle with all possible means education and awareness on safety procedures will visit different areas of the country, as part of the campaign. Interactive sessions with leaders of expatriate communities will also be part of the campaign.
