International School of London (ISL) Qatar technology students won the National Robotic Championship. Two teams from ISL took part in the Qatar National Robotics Olympiad which was attended by over 60 teams from schools across Qatar. The competition involved designing, constructing and programming a robot that could complete certain tasks in a race against other robots, and that demonstrated their creativity and problem-solving ability.
The ISL Qatar Junior High School team, comprising of Raghav Arora, Andrew Ilyas and Khairul Anwar Bin Fazlur Rahman, competed against 30 other schools, modifying and improving their robot as they progressed through qualifying rounds and on to the final, where they beat the Doha Modern Indian School to win the competition and receive the gold medal. The team has progressed to the Regional Robotic Olympiad in Qatar on Saturday, October 20, with teams from UAE, Bahrain, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Egypt, Lebanon and Jordan. They have also been rewarded by being chosen to represent Qatar in the World Robot Olympiad in Kuala Lumpur in November. ISL Qatar coaches, Timothy Hughes and Simon Zebian, agreed that “this is a fantastic achievement for the boys and for the school in only our second Olympiad. We wish them every success in the Regional and World Olympiads”.
