Doha: The Sheikh Thani bin Abdullah Al Thani's Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) has opened a “New Life” centre to help inmates during their sentence along with helping them to merge in the community after they serve their jail terms.
“The centre aims to assist inmates to carry on with their life and also help them to cope with the changes before and after their release from jail,” Nassir Al Shamar, Director of the centre, was quoted as saying by Al Sharq.
The programme is one of the latest initiative by RAF, which has already received widespread support from the community, including various donations.
“This is a very unique project and it will be a role model in terms of charity work in the Arab region,” Sheikh Ayedh Al Qahtani, General Manager of RAF, said.
Many problems and issues faced by prisoners in Qatari jails will be resolved through this project, the official said. In all its humanitarian interventions and developmental initiatives, RAF has a clear vision and a noble message that does not discriminate between people whatever their differences be it gender, nationality or culture.
