DOHA: Qatar is set to put itself on the map this time on architecture with the plan to construct a unique structure to match iconic architectural marvels from around the world, Al Sharq daily has reported.
Called Crystal Ball Light of the Future, the giant orb built exclusively for the coming World Cup 2022 will house a shopping centre and a sports museum among others. It was designed by Apriori Communications, a Croatian company specialised in telecom and public relations.
The project is still in it is initial stage and is expected to use highly sophisticated technology with focus on sustainable and green design and energy efficiency.
A feature of the giant crystal ball building is it changes into a shimmering installation once the sun sets while at daytime the outer surface takes on a gleaming effect, allowing enough daylight inside.
A truly innovative structure, the ball will be a revolving building expected to further enhance its position as a major tourist attraction during and after World Cup 2022.
With a budget of $120bn for World Cup 2022, Qatar plans to establish many projects including nine stadiums of international standards which will utilise solar energy.
