DOHA: Qatar’s public transport company ‘Mowasalat’ is expected to launch a fleet of water taxis by 2013. The company is giving final touches to its attractive water taxi transportation system, local Arabic daily Al Sharq reported yesterday.
The proposed water taxis will have the same colour, design, seats and other features with the official colour of Karwa taxis.
The water taxis will have soft seats and services such as high-tech suites and the ambience of maritime navigation.
The transport company has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the modern city of Lusail, West Bay and the Doha International Airport to undertake the completion of the infrastructure and give finishing touches for the launch of a pilot phase starting next year.
Mowasalat held intensive meetings with the concerned authorities to study the first phase of the project, and the water taxis initially will cover cities such as Lusail, West Bay and Airport.
And after the network expansion it will eventually cover other areas which will be decided later. The water taxis will sail through different tourist destinations and provide quality services keeping in view the safety and well-being of its users.
