DOHA: Disney on Ice fans in Qatar are eagerly anticipating Disney magic come to life as the biggest show this summer opens next month at Qatar National Convention Centre (QNCC).
“Disney shows have been a part of me growing up and I want my children to live the same magic that has inspired many people through the years,” said Luisa, a Disney fan who has bought four tickets for the entire family.
‘Disney on Ice Rockin’ Ever After’ will be the second show in Qatar after the last year’s ‘Disney on Ice Celebrates 100 Years of Magic’ which saw eight soldout shows.
“I saw the show last year and it was impressive. I know this show will be better and more spectacular,” said Mahmoud, adding he would watch the show with his close friends.
The exhilarating new production is expected to top last year’s show with eight performances in four days featuring adventurous moments from Disney•Pixar’s Brave and Disney’s The Little Mermaid, Tangled and Beauty and the Beast.
The new show uses the popular talent show trend as a vehicle to weave four stories together. Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck and Goofy search the globe for the hottest acts to perform, leading them into the worlds of Merida, Ariel, Belle and Rapunzel while comical Disney characters make appearances to try to be the next superstar. Merida, the headstrong, bow and arrow-wielding princess who stars in the animated film ‘Brave’ makes her ice debut in the show.
Organisers are gearing up for the production which will witness over 100 world-class performers and 40 containers of equipment and costumes.
Ali Haidary, Founder and CEO, Sport & Entertainment Solutions (SES) which is bringing the show, said 40 containers would be brought from the US and the venue would be built a week ahead of the opening.
The eight shows from September 24 to 27 are expected to attract about 40,000 spectators, Haidary told Al Raya recently.
The show is produced by Feld Entertainment and presented by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) and its Events Diary, OnQatar as part of the Qatar Summer Festival.
Rashed Al Qurese, Executive Director, Marketing & Promotions, QTA, said the show is one of the important events during the festival.
“We are hosting such events to position Qatar as a world-class tourism hub and make it one of the best tourism destinations for families in the GCC. Doha is one of the best venues to present Disney On Ice shows. Our role in QTA is to promote tourism events with high entertainment, cultural and educational quality,” he said.
Al Qurese said Qatar is boosting its capacity to host big events by building facilities such as the soon-to-open Doha Exhibition and Convention Centre which has an area of 90,000sqm.
