DOHA: The Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas and Hamas Politburo Chief Khalid Meshaal at Al Bahar Palace yesterday.
They discussed the situation in the Gaza Strip, especially the ongoing Israeli aggression and the need for efforts at various levels to halt it and end the siege on Gaza as well as the attainment of all the demands of the Palestinian people.
They also discussed efforts towards a United Nations resolution that sets a time-frame to end the occupation and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state in accordance with the borders of 1967, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The Emir underlined that Qatar will continue support for Gaza and its steadfastness against occupation. The Emir also stressed that there is no change in Qatar’s firm stances towards the Palestinian cause to achieve the legitimate demands of the Palestinians.
Later, Abbas left Doha following his visit. He and his delegation were seen off by the Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah and Palestinian Ambassador Moneer Ghanam.
Meanwhile, the Emir held telephone talks with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the latest developments in Gaza as well as regional and international efforts to end the Israeli aggression and lift the blockade on the Strip. They also exchanged views on efforts towards a UN resolution.
The Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah received a telephone call from US Secretary of State John Kerry.
They discussed the latest developments in Gaza and regional and international efforts towards the issue.
