DOHA: Souq Waqif has become a major Eid tourist destination, attracting families from neighbouring GCC countries to its Eid Al Fitr events and activities.
Families, mostly from Saudi Arabia, thronged the Entertainment Tent on Al Ahmad field, Al Rayyan Theatre and cafes and restaurants in the souq.
GCC tourists expressed satisfaction over Eid Al Fitr offerings, including shows and activities for the entire family.
Noora Al Emadi from Saudi Arabia lauded programmes for children, including the international circus and games such as the moving train and hoppers which children enjoy.
Back in Doha for the third time, Saudi Umm Noof said she and her family are happy to spend their Eid vacation in Doha, especially in the souq.
“We were also here during the Spring festival and Eid Al Adha festival last year. Events, including the circus and games in the air-conditioned tent are happening in the souq where all facilities are available, including restaurants, hotels and the market,” she said.
First-timer Musad Al Dosari, also from Saudi Arabia, shared the same view and said, “The good thing about the souq is everything is in one place: The festival, the shops. They have also a very good festival programme.”
Another first-timer Abu Fahad from Bahrain, said, “Doha has become our preferred destination for Eid because of this interesting festival. Organisers of the festival are doing a good job.”
Fahad, who came with his family, said the festival, catered especially for children, has brought smile to their faces because of the variety of games and gifts.
Hussain Mohammad from the UAE said he always comes to the souq with his family to attend Eid festival because he is happy to see his children enjoy events and activities.
The Ukrainian circus in Al Rayyan Theatre has been a crowd-puller as it appeals to people of all ages. The Entertainment Tent and Souq Waqif Art Centre are also attracting crowds. Ali Abdullah, a tourist from Saudi Arabia, said he always comes to Qatar to attend Eid festival because it is near.
