DOHA: Cases of stomach problems continue to be reported to the emergency unit of Hamad General Hospital (HGH).
On the third day of Eid Al Fitr yesterday, some 560 cases were reported to the unit from morning until evening.
Of these, majority were related to stomach disorders, mostly minor cases.
A sudden change in eating and sleeping patterns after the fasting month of Ramadan is the main cause of stomach ailments, coupled with the intake of rich food.
Meanwhile, one case of death was reported to the accident section of the unit and involved an Asian who had drowned while taking a swim in the sea.
At least 10 cases were related to cardiac problems. Some 860 cases were reported to various children’s emergency facilities of Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC).
About 538 of them were reported to Al Sadd paediatric emergency and 49 of them were admitted while two were shifted to intensive care units.
Most children complained of stomach and respiratory problems, doctors said.
The ambulance section of HMC received some 214 calls from 3am until 4pm yesterday, and 67 of them were for critical cases.
Bicycle ambulances are also being used in busy areas where the mobility of an ambulance is not possible due to traffic jams.
