Govt to re-demarcate CMC constituencies

July 15, 2014 - 5:41:36 am

DOHA: The Ministry of Interior has announced re-demarcation of constituencies for the Central Municipal Council (CMC), elections to which are due next year. The CMC has a four-year term and has representation from 29 constituencies from across the country.

In keeping with the latest decision of the Interior Ministry, some constituencies have been expanded while others have been reduced, local Arabic daily

Al Raya reported yesterday.

The largest constituency in terms of number of areas falling within its jurisdiction is constituency Number eight, which now includes Old Airport.

It has 24 localities, while the smallest is Number 12,

Al Muaither, which has just one locality and that is

Al Muaither itself.

The Interior Ministry sent a circular regarding the re-demarcation to the CMC wards and its secretariat-general distributed it to its members.

The circular that carries the ministry’s Decision Number 51 of 2014 (about the re-demarcation of the constituencies) replaces the ministry’s earlier decision (Number 4 of 1998), the

daily said.
