Maersk Oil book marks 20 years of output at Al Shaheen oilfield

DOHA: Maersk Oil celebrated Qatar Petroleum’s 40th anniversary and launched a commemorative photo book to mark 20 years since oil was first produced from Al Shaheen offshore oilfield.

The oilfield delivers over 40 percent of Qatar’s current daily production.

The book, Navigating complexity: celebrating 20 years since first oil from Al Shaheen highlights achievements and experience and expertise that have unlocked the hidden potential of Al Shaheen.

The Minister of Energy and Industry and Chairman and Managing Director of QP H E Dr Mohamed bin Saleh Al Sada says in his foreword in the book:

“It is a testament to the wisdom of our leadership that Qatar maintained a steady course in ensuring prudent utilization and optimization of resources. 

“The energy industry owes an immeasurable debt of gratitude to the visionary leadership of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani and significant advancements made possible under the leadership of the Father Emir H H Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani. “For more than 20 years, QP has been working closely with Maersk Oil to unlock the potential of the very complex Al Shaheen which delivers over 40 percent of our current daily production. As we celebrate the 40th anniversary of QP and 20 years since oil was first produced at Al Shaheen, I would like to thank and congratulate the people who have made such milestones possible, and look forward to an exciting future for the oil industry in Qatar”.
