Beach Footbal Championship kicks off at Katara

Sixteen teams are participating in the annual championship.

DOHA: Sixteen teams are participating at the fourth edition of the Beach Football Championship which kicked off  on Wednesday on Katara Beach.

The annual championship which coincides with Katara’s Ramadan Festival activities in the Cultural Village is being organised by the Katara Beach Administration and sponsored by Furjan Committee for Football.

The teams representing different areas of the country were classified into four groups. The first group is composed of Al Nasser, Sharq, Juwan and Mesaimeer. The second group includes Umm Breyk, Katara, Umm Al Afae and Umm Al Amid. The third group comprises Al Thumama, Muraik, Al Wajbah and Bin Omran. The fourth group includes Madinat Khalifa, Al Shamal, Al Shaniyayah and Aziziyah.

In the first match Al Nasser beat Sharq 12-1 while Juwan defeated Mesaimeer 9-2 in the second match. Katara overcame  Umm Breyk 11-1 and Umm Al Afae defeated Umm al Amid 6-0 in other matches.

The championship will continue until July 16. The winning team will get QR50,000, second place QR40,000 and third place QR20,000 in addition to medals. The best player, best goalkeeper and top scorer will be chosen to receive prizes.
