DOHA: A committee is to be set up at the Ministry of Interior to consider name change requests from Qataris, GCC nationals and expats for themselves and their children.
It is proposed that the panel should have five members, all from the ministry, and to be nominated by the minister.
The panel will have a head and his deputy and all applications for name change will need to be addressed to it.
A draft decision of the Cabinet to set up the panel was approved by the Cabinet at its weekly meeting yesterday, QNA reported.
The Cabinet also approved a draft law that specifies that the Supreme Education Council pay for textbooks and transportation of Qatari schoolchildren and pay their tuition fee.
The draft has amended a previous law (No. 7 of 2012) regulating the educational voucher system whereby SEC pays educational vouchers for all enrolled Qatari students at schools chosen by the council.
The Minister of Education and Higher Education has to issue regulations for implementation of the educational voucher system. Those public servants who get paid for education of their children will not be entitled to the privilege, QNA added.
