Doha: Hyatt Plaza shopping mall’s annual charity initiative Fast-a-thon 2014 will take place on July 4-5.
It is organised in cooperation with the Sheikh Thani Bin Abdullah Al Thani Foundation for Humanitarian Services (RAF) and proceeds will be donated to people of Africa.
Fast-a-thon encourages the non-Muslim community to experience fasting one whole day to experience the thirst and hunger of the deprived people in the world and support them.
Hyatt Plaza and RAF will donate QR200 to each person in Africa on behalf of every individual who participates in the event.
The organisers have also partnered with Primary Health Care Corporation (PHCC), providing an opportunity for participants to clarify health effects of fasting through an interactive session.
“Over the years, Fast-a-thon has turned out to be an event that provides a common platform for people from diverse background and different cultures to come forward, experience fasting and join hands for a noble cause,” said Feroz Moideen, General Manager, Hyatt Plaza. “We look forward to bigger support from our community this year, as we try to reach out to the greater Africa where more than 239m people have little or no access to food.”
As part of the event, Hyatt Plaza will also organise an Iftar party for all registered participants. It will offer free henna painting, face painting for kids, and free health check-ups organized by PHCC.
The mall will also launch a Ramadan Charity drive on the second day of Fast-a-thon.
It will include an exhibition to highlight the grave situation in Africa and will have a donation box in the mall throughout the holy month.
Registration is open for Fast-a-thon and customers have the option to register through email at email@example.com or in person at the customer service of Hyatt Plaza.
They can also call Hyatt Plaza customer service at 44999666.
Participation is limited to non-Muslims. All participants will be invited for an orientation session on July 4 at 4pm in Hyatt Plaza Food Court.
“We hope Fast-a-thon will provide comfort to thousands of people in Africa and we believe more people will support us through Fast-a-thon and Ramadan charity drive, helping us create a greater social impact,” Moideen said.
