DOHA: The fasting month of Ramadan begins here tomorrow, the Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs announced yesterday.
The Ministry’s five-member Moon-Sighting Committee said in a statement that the last day of the lunar month of Shabaan (hijra 1435) is today. This means that the month of Ramadan begins tomorrow, Qatar News Agency (QNA) said, quoting the Committee.
In the rest of the GCC region as well (Saudi Arabia, Oman, the UAE, Kuwait and Bahrain) Ramadan begins tomorrow.
In several other Arab countries, including Sudan, Iraq, Jordan and the Palestinian territories, too, the fasting month begins tomorrow. In Yemen it began today.
According to reliable websites, the fasting month begins on Sunday in 143 countries around the world, while in 53 countries it begins today. In most African countries, such as Mauritania, Senegal, Gabon, Mali, Liberia, Ivory Coast and Ghana, Muslims will be fasting from today.
