DOHA: A member of the Central Municipal Council (CMC) has criticised local petroleum products distributor, Woqod (Qatar Fuel Company), saying it doesn’t bother to clarify on issues that directly concern people’s safety.
Mubarak Fraish (pictured) said there is a discussion raging on the local social media suggesting that filling up a car’s petrol tank to capacity in this extremely hot weather can be risky as it can explode. “Woqod should have issued a clarification through the media but it hasn’t bothered, even as the debate rages on,” Fraish said in remarks to this newspaper.
The company should be sensitive to such issues as they directly concern people’s safety. “It should have immediately issued a statement clarifying whether what is being discussed is true or false.”
Experts, meanwhile, told this newspaper that since petrol in Qatar is of high quality, it expands in volume due to extreme heat, causing pressure inside the tank. So it is always advisable not to fill the tank to its capacity. The Peninsula
