DOHA: In bid to raise awareness of diabetes and to help those at risk to avoid it and give people already living with the condition advice on managing their health better, Action on Diabetes (AoD) has launched a competition for media professionals.
The competition is open to local media to write an article, produce a short film or radio story under the theme ‘Diabetes in Qatar’; entries can be either articles that talk about diabetes generally or take on the disease from a different angle, like promoting healthy life choices.
Articles, broadcasts, video reports and any accompanying material must be submitted by email, or by hand before the July 31 deadline.
The steering committee of AOD will be evaluating submissions and the best three submissions will be selected as winners. The articles should be 800-1500 words and submission can be either in English or Arabic. Broadcast submissions should be no shorter than five minutes, and can be in the form of a report, documentary or an interview. The videos should be submitted as MOV, AVI, MPG, WMV, SWF, files in person.
The winners will be given an opportunity to gain unmatched diabetes education in Denmark. Three tickets will be awarded to the winning journalists to attend the IO Press Visit. Journalists from around the world will travel on August 14-15 to Copenhagen where they will visit Novo Nordisk headquarters, Novo Nordisk production site Kalundborg “World’s largest and sustainable insulin factory” and Maersk Oil headquarters, Qatar’s largest oil producer.
Journalists will be given unique insight into diabetes from the patients’ perspective by hearing their stories, participate in sessions on Novo Nordisk Research and development and attend workshops with world-class experts such as Sir Michael Hirst, President of International Diabetes Federation and Lars Rebien Sorensen, CEO of Novo Nordisk The Peninsula
