DOHA: Some 4,853 people have applied for the allotment of 645 shops at Al Furjan shopping centres located in 44 remote areas of Qatar.
The allotment is to be decided through online lottery on Sunday.
The lottery will be held in the evening at the Ministry of Economy and Commerce, in the presence of the Minister and senior officials of Consumer Protection Department (CPD) of the ministry.
The names of four winners for each shop will be drawn through the lottery and while the first winner will be offered the shop on rent, three will be listed as standby.
This is to ensure that if the first winner fails to take the outlet on rent for some reason, the second winner would be contacted.
Similarly, if the second winner refuses to take the shop, the offer could be made to the third.
The one who wins the allotment would have to sign a rent contract with the ministry within two weeks. He must start operations within three months after signing the contract.
Once an allottee begins operations, his bank guarantee letter would be returned. No subletting is allowed.
Those allotted shops would have to return the premises to the ministry if they don’t want to run the outlets.
