DOHA: Doha Players is staging the world famous musical Les Miserables from May 13 to 17 at the Qatar National Theatre.
Seen by more than 65 million people in 42 countries around the globe, Les Miserables, now in its 29th year on the West End stage in London, is still breaking box-office records everywhere. In May it will be Doha’s turn to experience the pleasure and the pathos created by more than 60 actors and musicians performing songs such as I Dreamed A Dream, Bring Him Home, One Day More and On My Own – Les Miserables is for many the show of shows.
Les Miserables, set against the backdrop of 19th-century France, tells an enthralling story of broken dreams and unrequited love, passion, sacrifice and redemption — a timeless testament to the survival of the human spirit. Ex-convict Jean Valjean is hunted for decades by the ruthless policeman Javert after he breaks parole. When Valjean agrees to care for factory worker Fantine’s young daughter, Cosette, their lives change forever.
Directed by Mione van der Merwe the musical has cast of 50 actors supported by a talented orchestra and around 80 volunteers working behind the scenes.
