DOHA: The Embassy of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh community in Qatar observed the historic Mujibnagar Day with due solemnity. Every year the historic Mujibnagar Day is observed in Bangladesh and missions abroad with programmes to mark the formation of Bangladesh’s first government to lead the War of Liberation in 1971.

The programme started with hoisting of the National Flag by Ambassador Syed Masud Mahmood Khundoker at the embassy premises (pictured) in presence of embassy officials and expatriates. After the flag hoisting, dua was offered for the salvation of the departed souls of the martyrs of the Liberation War 1971. Messages from the President and the Prime Minister were read out. All stood in silence for one minute as a mark of respect to the freedom fighters.

During a discussion later, speakers highlighted the contribution of the Father of the Nation of Bangladesh, martyrs and the freedom fighters. They emphasised on the need for educating the youth about the true history of Bangladesh. In his speech, ambassador Masud recalled the extraordinary role played by the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and freedom fighters in Bangladesh’s emergence as an independent country.

He thanked expatriate Bangladeshis in Qatar for their hard labour and contribution to the nation building and for demonstration of unity and  fraternity.
