DOHA: The Youth Company (TYC) recently embarked on an eco journey through the Al Thakira marina located north of Al Khor. Organised by eco-adventure company Entalek, the youth from the TYC kayaked through the swamps of Al Thakira mangrove forest exploring the beauty of the country’s hidden natural heritage.

Steve Rhodes a professional Kayaker and Entalek’s Director of Operations provided TYC delegates basic kayaking lessons on how to paddle boats through the mangrove swamps while experiencing the natural beauty of the habitat.

The adventure company aims to educate more people, get them excited about nature and fostering youth’s involvement with Qatar’s outdoors especially through kayaking, snorkelling and other outdoor activities.

“Qatar has amazing locations to explore and we have the tools to do it. It also has a lot more to offer in the way of outdoor activities than is currently being utilized”, said Rhodes. Following the paddling lessons, the trip leader led TYC’s kayaking convoy to the mangroves where they were exposed to few challenges. They claimed it was an amazing experience and that eco-retreats like this should be organised more often for the Qatari youths.

“The retreat was an awesome experience and we have learnt some amazing facts about the ecosystem. We will organize a broader programme with Entalek for the Qatari youth as it will help to educate them more about nature’s discoveries which many have not always considered. Everyone should be a part of this,” said TYC CEO Abdulrahman Sajid.
