Three youth get one-year jail for car racing

DOHA: A criminal court has sentenced three youth to one year in jail and ordered to cancel their driver’s licence for six months for racing on a highway causing the death of a person and serious injuries to another.

The court also ordered the youths to pay blood money worth QR200,000 to the family of the victim, in conjunction with the insurance companies, Al Sharq reported.

They were charged with murder by mistake, engaging in car race in the street without taking permission from the authorities concerned and rash driving endangering lives of people and properties, 

The road accident report stated that the youths had engaged in a car race on Semaisma road near Al Khor. During the race one of the cars slipped from the highway after the driver lost control. It then hit the steel divider on the road and rolled over several times. One person was killed in the incident and two people travelling in the car were injured, one of them seriously, said the daily.

Part of the road divider and a lamppost of the municipality were destroyed in the incident. During investigations the convicts confessed to the crime.
