DOHA: The Ministry of Mun-icipality and Urban Planning has invited tenders for design and construction of six residential complexes that can accommodate 28,000 labourers.

The tenders also include a separate complex providing various government services to the workers under one roof, along with entertainment facilities, a local Arabic daily reported yesterday.

The construction work is expected start in the second half of this year. The tender is basically directed at Qatari construction companies to take part in the  design, construction and management of the new residential complexes, said the daily.

The complexes must fulfil the required standards to provide suitable accommodation for the workers. They should be built with their own funds, which can be rented out after construction. Each complex should have the capacity of 4,000 workers at the maximum.

The company that wins the tenders will be required to provide all the sites with roads, electricity, sewage lines and drinking water network.  The contract will be for 15 years, after which the government will take back the properties, said the daily.
