Doha: Japanese Ambassador Shingo Tsuda, in cooperation with Japan Foundation, donated 84 books on Japan to Tariq Bin Ziyad Independent Secondary School for Boys, which has started teaching Japanese language.

The curriculum follows a decision of the Supreme Education Council in 2012 to include Japanese as one of the second languages at Independent schools.

The ceremony were attended by Hamad Mohamed Al Mannai, Principal of the school, and 12th grade students who have been learning Japanese and have achieved remarkable progress.

Tsuda hoped the books would contribute to enriching students’ knowledge on Japan and motivate them to deepen their interest in the language. This is the second time the embassy has donated books to the school.

The books in Japanese, English and Arabic cover Japan’s history, literature, social sciences, arts, cooking, pop culture and other aspects. The embassy is maintaining close relationship with Qatari educational institutions to promote the language.
