Doha: The General Directorate of Civil Defence celebrated World Civil Defence Day at its Officers Club in Wadi Al Sail.
“The day is a good opportunity to thank and appreciate leaders of the ministry and Civil Defence personnel who firefight while they are not sure they will come back,” said Brigadier Hamad Duhaimi.
“Qatar is keen on the development of the civil defence system by providing the directorate with latest equipment to keep pace with developments in Qatar,” he said, stressing the country is witnessing a big urban upswing accompanied by advancement in civil defence response to any emergency.
During the ceremony, Qatar Primary Independent School presented a theatrical show on the importance of using fire-extinguishers and following safety procedures at homes and in camping facilities.
Artist Hussein Al Marri presented a choir entitled ‘For your safety, Qatar’.
Brigadier Duhaimi said the process of development and modernisation of Civil Defence in recent years is going according to advanced programmes and mechanisms to cope with the large urban development taking place in Qatar.
He said events have proved the efficiency and capacity of employees of the directorate in reducing risks and protecting lives and properties.
Brigadier Duhaimi honoured the heads of various Civil Defence departments.
