Cabinet reviews general budget for 2014-2015

Doha: The Prime Minister and Interior Minister H E Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani yesterday chaired the weekly Cabinet session at the Emiri Diwan.

Following the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud said the Cabinet discussed the general budget for fiscal year 2014-2015.

The Finance Minister briefed the session on statistics and bases on which the budget was made and its goals to realise sustainable economic growth, achieve balance in general expenditure to avoid rise in commodities prices and inflation, achieve balance in expenses and incomes-related increases and shoring up the private sector’s participation or partnership in development projects.

 Al Mahmoud said budget expenditure would focus on major projects, especially in the education, health, infrastructure and transport sectors in addition to projects related to 2022 FIFA World Cup. 

The Minister of Administrative Development presented data related to the salaries and wages chapter and steps by the ministry to create jobs.

After discussing the draft budget, the Cabinet decided to approve estimates of public revenues and public expenditures in the salaries and wages chapter, current expenditures chapter, capital expenditures chapter and major public projects chapter.

The major public projects chapter-related estimates in the draft budget were forwarded to the Advisory Council.

 The Cabinet decided to follow up and work as per the budget after taking note of the council’s recommendations concerning estimates of major public projects and the issuance of an Emiri decision approving such a budget.

The Cabinet urged ministries and the government agencies to follow up rules and measures relating to the budget and implement it accurately.
