DOHA: Saudi authorities will shortly close down Al Jazeera’s office in Riyadh, London-based Al Hayat Arabic daily reported yesterday, quoting an unidentified Saudi official.
The move follows official directions to Saudi citizens to end any involvement with Qatari media outlets, said the daily. Al jazeera.net carried this report yesterday without any comment from the network.
According to earlier reports, the Saudi Information Ministry has asked all Saudi writers and columnists to stop writing for Qatari newspapers.
The Qatar TV correspondent in Saudi Arabia, Abdul Rahman Al Murshid — a Saudi citizen — was quoted as saying on Sunday that he had stopped working with the channel.
Al Hayat also said that authorities in the UAE had asked Emirati officials not to travel to Qatar.
