Qatar committed to helping Libyan people

Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah with US Secretary of State John Kerry in Rome yesterday.

Rome: The Minister of Foreign Affairs H E Dr Khalid bin Mohammed Al Attiyah yesterday stressed Qatar’s commiment in supporting Libya and standing alongside the people of that country to achieve their legitimate aspirations. 

The minister was addressing the Second Ministerial Meeting of the International Conference to support Libya, in Rome.

Al Attiyah said such a key meeting represents a step in the right course for success of the Paris conference held last year.  Libya is getting ready to a more decisive stage in the transition and this conference embodies the grand international consensus on supporting Libya and renewing our commitment as the parties concerned with the Libyan affair.

“Libya has witnessed several positive indications and developments in the past few months inter-alia the election of the 60th panel to work out the new constitution, the remarkable progress of the security and military operations to help the government prevail its full control on the Libyan terrirtories to help reinstate security and stability across the country and annul any possible foreign intervention that could lead to negative repercussions,” Al Attiyah said.

The minister also wished National Congress members and the government of Libya to form a mixed delegation comprising the revolutionary leaders to communicate with the international community and assure them that the the revolution leaders are backing the legitimacy in Libya.

Libya’s neighbours and international partners, UN organisations, EU, Arab League, and other international agencies are taking part in the meeting together with senior officials from 25 countries and five international organisations said that the international community needed to pay very firm attention to the country at present.

On the sidelines of the conference Al Attiyah met US Secretary of State John Kerry, Libyan Prime Minister Ali Zeidan and Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu. They exchanged views on latest developments on the regional and international arenas.QNA
