Wife’s call saves cook

DOHA: The worst affected in the Istanbul Restaurant blast was the neighbouring Tasty Restaurant, which lost seven of its staff — three Indians and four Nepalese. But its cook, an Indian hailing from the southern Indian state of Kerala, had a narrow escape.
Two repeated missed calls from his wife in Kerala took him outside the restaurant, and as it happened, from the death trap. First he ignored the call but when it was repeated, he decided to go out to call back, exactly when the gas tank exploded.
Ten of the Tasty Restaurant’s staff were inside at the time of the incident and seven of them were killed. Another three including the cook were outside, an official of the company that runs the eatery told this daily yesterday. “We are trying our best to send all the bodies back home as soon as possible, after completing the official formalities. Our staff will be accompanying the bodies,” he said.
