DOHA: The Supreme Council of Health (SCH) will set up a team with representatives from different ministries and health institutions to implement the national programme to combat smoking and use of tobacco.
Dr Mohammad bin Hamad Al Thani, Director of the Public Health Department at SCH, will chair the panel. Dr Khalud Al Mutawa, Head of the Non-communicable Diseases section at SCH, has been appointed as vice chairman.
The committee will comprise representatives from the Ministry of Interior (Al Fazaa), Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs, Ministry of Municipality and Urban Planning, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Economy and Commerce, Supreme Education Council, Hamad Medical Corporation, Primary Health Care Corporation, Qatar Tourism Authority, and the General Customs Department.
The panel will formulate plans, policies and regulations to fight tobacco use.
A media campaign will be launched to educate the public about anti-tobacco laws and regulations.
