​10-man gang arrested for smuggling liquor

The Preventive Security Department at the Ministry of Interior has arrested a gang of 10 expats involved in smuggling a huge quantity of liquor into the country. The picture shows four of them in custody.

 



DOHA: The Preventive Security Department of the Ministry of Interior has arrested a gang of 10 expatriates involved in smuggling a huge quantity of liquor into the country.

Law enforcement authorities detected 22,000 bottles of alcohol hidden in a cargo shipment for a company that had falsified customs statements, the ministry said yesterday.

The gang comprising Arabs and Asians was taken into custody during an operation conducted by the Preventive Security Department and the General Directorate of Customs, which followed up the containers after they were released from Doha Port.

The gang was referred to the Public Prosecution for further investigation.
