Doha: The Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs H E Ahmed bin Abdullah bin Zaid Al Mahmoud yesterday inaugurated the 11th edition of Doha Jewellery and Watches Exhibition at Qatar National Convention Centre.
Organised by Qatar Tourism Authority (QTA) in cooperation with q.media events, the six-day fair is hosting 32 local and international companies, representing more than 500 brands of watches and jewellery in the world, and unique new collections to be displayed during special events at the exhibition.
On the sidelines of his tour of the exhibition, Al Mahmoud said the exhibition is a partnership between Qatar Tourism Authority, q.media and the private sector.
He praised the participation of the private sector, with the number of exhibitors increasing by 20 percent compared to last year and the participation of new countries.
This indicates that there is a desire among international companies to take part and showcase their products in Qatar, he said.
Al Mahmoud said he had received a request from one or two companies asking for more space and better location.
He said he had discussed the matter with QTA representatives and that the event will be planned well in the future to ensure enough space for all participants wishing to showcase their products.
QTA Chairman Issa bin Mohammed Al Mohannadi highlighted great additions and ideas introduced at the exhibition, which contributed to the increased number of exhibitors and the growing demand of one of the most important expos in the exhibition industry and tourism business in Qatar.
The expo is being organised by the private sector for the first time, and this shows that the private sector is playing its role in the development of this key industry for Qatar, he said.
He said the inauguration of the exhibition coincided with the launch of the National Tourism Sector Strategy 2030 which sets out an ambitious road map for the tourism sector.
The expo is expected to be one of the most exciting events of the year. Featuring the most spectacular international and local exhibitors, visitors will also get to witness a stunning catwalk displaying quality jewellery and watches, many for the first time. QNA
