Doha: The third group of camel riders in Al Galayel Championship will start hunting animals from today at Alerayk reserved area.
The group, which entered the area on Thursday, include Al Adam, Bu Hadi, Al Sylalia and Aljadi teams.
Each team comprises six to nine members and is headed by a leader. They have set up camps at locations selected by their leaders.
The competition continues until this month-end. The first team took part on February 4 and the second on February 9.
Registration started last September. Of 20 teams registered, 16 have qualified for the second stage of the completion. Participants have been divided in four groups, each with four teams.
Many Arab and foreign delegates visited Al Galayel headquarters and praised preparations.
A Spanish delegation from International Organisation for Falconers praised the standards set by the organising committee for the competition and said delegates enjoyed to know about the sport.
They said the successful hosting of the competition would bolster Qatar’s image at regional and international levels.
The delegation was accompanied by Ali bin Mohamed Al Sheikh Al Kuwari, General Coordinator of the competition
He briefed delegates on stages of the competition, rules and the camping system.
Two Britons also visited Al Galayel headquarters to know about the competition, Al Sharq reports.
Delegations from Arab and other countries also praised efforts and said it is one of the traditional sports. The competition is a good way to remind the new generation about their customs and traditions, they said, adding such sports teach people how to be patient and keep trying without losing hope.
