Doha: It was a day to remember for families who gathered at Aspire Zone to celebrate National Sport Day yesterday.
They had a whole day of fun with a variety of sporting and entertainment activities to suit all members — young and old.
The day began with Ladies Zumba, a fitness programme for women which had easy to follow moves fused with Latin rhythms.
Simultaneously men enjoyed football matches, showing their coordination and stamina.
Kids took part in ‘Kids Cycling’ where cycling skills were taught by Qatar Cycling Federation members. Families also participated in physical tests conducted by the Aspire Academy Sport Science Department. Participants were provided with record of their personal scores.
In the afternoon ‘The 5,000 Step Journey’ began from the Torch Hotel and ended at Dome exit.
A Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC) expert held exercise training sessions for children.
It set up a blood pressure check-up stall for women and organ donation stall where many people registered.
Al Abeer Medical Centre also set up a stall to check blood sugar level and body mass index. Around 1,000 people benefited.
RasGas, Qatar TV, the Ministry of Energy and Industry, General Retirement and Social Security, Qatar Development Bank, HMC Organs Donation Centre, Civil Defence, Qatar Enterprise, ictQATAR, National Human Right Committee and Carrefour also joined the celebrations.
Over 30 sport and related activities were organised by Aspire Zone Foundation along with 23 companies.
