Qaradawi denies ban on giving Friday sermon

DOHA: Noted Doha-based Islamic scholar Dr Yousuf Al Qaradawi has denied rumours circulating through a section of the media and some social networking sites that he has been banned from delivering Friday sermons in Qatar.
Quoting the twitter account of Al Qaradawi, Al Sharq reported yesterday that the scholar didn’t give a sermon last Friday because he was suffering from cold.
Al Qaradawi was at the centre of a controversy last week after he criticised the UAE in one of his Friday sermons for its actions against Islamists and support of the military-led government in Egypt. Qatar distanced itself from his statement, saying that Qaradawi’s views did not represent the country’s official policy.
His absence for the past two weeks at Omar bin Khatab mosque in Medinat Khalifa, where he used to deliver sermons, apparently gave rise to the rumours.
