DOHA: Young Qatari artist Hana Al Saadi was given the rare opportunity to work with world renowned artist Damien Hirst at his London studio.

The student at Virginia Commonwealth University in Qatar was declared winner of the Damien Hirst Art Challenge by Qatar Museums Authority (QMA) last month.

Her installation Snail Print Factory won over 61 submissions in the competition organised to complement Relics, Hirst’s first solo exhibition in the Middle East.

Snail Print Factory is an installation art that explores three important stages of the natural lifecycle: Eating, mating and reproduction. Within the micro-ecosystem, the snails go about their business and leave slime trails on paper that tell stories of the individual journeys, encounters and new beginnings inside the tank.

As part of the prize, Al Saadi went to London to meet Hirst and have a guided tour of Gloucester Studios.
