DOHA: Qatar and Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) have emphasised the need of member countries to work closely to present a common, coordinated position to promote environmental sustainability at the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP20) to be held in Lima, Peru, this year.
The Minister of Environment H E Ahmed Amer M Al Humaidi and Dr S M Adeli, Secretary-General, GECF, issued the call during a meeting.
Dr Adeli said growing global demand for energy may lead to pollution, if the choice of fuel would be a polluting one.
He said use of natural gas as the cleanest fossil fuel will lead to less CO2 emissions compared to coal.
Dr Adeli also expressed fears about the impact of fracking on the environment.
Al Humaidi stressed the need for coordination and collaboration between countries to promote environmental sustainability.
The GECF is a gathering of leading gas producers in the world. It was set up as international government organisation to bolster coordination among member countries. The Peninsula
