Paris: The Foreign Minister H E Dr Khalid bin Mohamed Al Attiyah headed Qatar’s delegation to the Friends of Syria Group ministerial meeting here yesterday.
The session addressed latest developments, means of supporting the national coalition for Syrian revolutionary and opposition forces and arrangements for the Geneva 2 conference on January 22.
Al Attiyah reiterated Qatar’s stance supporting aspirations of the Syrian people and efforts being made to unite the Syrian opposition. He said a political solution from Geneva conference could be the only way out of the crisis.
The foreign ministers of 11 Friends of Syria countries attended the meeting, along with the Syrian coalition. The Friends of Syria urged the coalition to attend peace talks, saying there was no alternative to a political solution. The grouping of Western-backed rebels will announce a decision on January 17.
