Schoolchildren taking part in the MoI awareness camp.
DOHA: The Permanent Committee for Drugs and Alcohol Affairs (PCDAA) at the Ministry of Interior in collaboration with Qatar Scouts and Guides Association organised a scout camp for school students over the weekend to raise awareness about the danger of drugs.
The event at Al Khor marina scouts camp in Al Khor was part of the ongoing Weqaya campaign of the Ministry and was attended by 132 students from seven preparatory schools.
The schools included Bin Khaldun Independent preparatory school, Khalid bin Ahmad Independent preparatory school, Abdul Rahman bin Jassim Independent preparatory school, Ahnaf bin Qais Independent preparatory school, Al Furqan Preparatory private School, Khalid bin Al Waleed Independent preparatory School an Omar bin Al Khatab Independent Preparatory School.
Major Ibrahim Al Sameh, Secretary General of PCDAA said the committee was actively working to spread awareness about the danger of drugs and their devastating effect on families and society.
The camp commander Ghanim Abdul Rahman Al Kowari said the event featured a variety of activities such as camp fire, sports, badge making, pearl hunting and diving, creative thinking, fashion scout, aptitude test, among others.
An awareness film A Moment of Choice was shown and then the students wrecked a cigarette figure marking their detestation to it in a symbolic way.
Abou Hammam Waqni delivered a speech on the topic “choosing the Ideal friend”. Dr Ahmad Zaki and Sheikh Hamoud Al Anzi also addressed the camp.
At the closing ceremony Major Ibrahim Al Sameh and Abdullah Mahmoud awarded prizes to the best performers in the camp. The Peninsula
