Qatar Airways honours its top students, employees

Doha: Qatar Airways honoured its high achieving Qatari scholarship students during the annual Excellence Day, hosted by the Nationalisation Department for the second consecutive year.

More than 30 students were recognised for achieving remarkable excellence by working hard to fulfil their potential in their academics and summer internship for 2013.

The achievers will be progressing towards a career with the airline and will be nurtured by it to become future leaders and airline executives. 

The event was attended by the Minister of Finance and Qatar Airways Chairman H E Ali Sherif Al Emadi, the Chairman of Qatar Tourism Authority Engineer Issa Mohammed Al Mohannadi, the US Ambassador Susan L Ziadeh and Qatar Airways CEO, Akbar Al Baker.

Students were awarded in three categories – Gold, Silver and Burgundy with a special CEO Award for outstanding achievements, the Platinum Award.

Acknowledging the success of the students, Al Baker said: “Each of them has worked incredibly hard to reach where they are today and have achieved success by applying themselves diligently and making the best use of their talents. 

“This is going to be the foundation upon which they can build their successful career with Qatar Airways. As the national airline, we are committed to supporting and developing these young nationals — men and women — and ensuring they are ready to take on roles at all levels.”

Senior Vice-President Contracts and Procurement & Chairman of Nationalisation Committee at Qatar Airways,  Mohsen Al Yafei said: “At Qatar Airways, there will be plenty of opportunities for these students to keep growing their skills and knowledge. They also have the great opportunity of being coached by senior airline mentors who are passionate and excited about sharing their professional experiences.”

Qatar Airways recognised the outstanding mentors and coaches who demonstrated leadership and offered support, guidance and inspiration by committing to train student interns. 

Other departments which partnered with Qatar Airways’ Nationalisation wing in the intake of Qatari graduate trainee’s, interns and managers were also honoured for their support.

Qatar Airways gave out the CEO Platinum Awards, which are divided into four categories, to those with remarkable achievements exceeding all other categories. 

The Student Award went to Aisha Mahmoud Al Heidous, the Intern Award to Ali Ibrahim Al Ajail, the Coach Award to Manager, Business System in Information Technology Department Amir Hussain Naqvi, and the Department Award to the Commercial Department.

Qatar Airways also honoured its employees who have successfully completed the Executive Leadership Programme offered by Airbusiness Academy.
