DOHA: The Qatari ambassador to the UAE attended the proceedings yesterday of a UAE court that is trying a fellow Qatari for alleged links to a banned local organisation.
The envoy sat through the proceedings of the court that lasted about 40 minutes, the son of the accused Dr Mahmoud Al Jaidah, said on his Twitter account yesterday. Hassan said the court adjourned the hearing to next week after a 40-minute session that began at around 1.30pm.
According to Hassan, the attitude of the UAE authorities seems to be changing for the better towards his father. Al Jaidah was detained at Dubai airport late in February this year while he was on his way to Doha from Bangkok. Hassan said he was kept in detention for almost nine months before charges were filed against him on November 18.
Al Jaidah is accused of having links to Jamiat Al Islah, a UAE-based organisation that is banned by the authorities there.
