DOHA:  Traditional sword dance, Al Arda, beating of the Qatari drums and display of camels and horses marked the launch of National Day celebrations at Darb Al Saai grounds in Al Sadd yesterday.

A huge crowd, including a number of Qatari children in traditional attire, witnessed the celebrations. Darb Al Saai, which was moved to a new location in Al Sadd is a major attraction of the annual National Day festivities.

An array of events has been lined up at this venue this year under the National Day theme “our hearts are the source of our glory” .

The new location has been prepared in a way that would take visitors on a journey to the past, through history and traditions of Qatar, helping the young generation of Qataris to know how their forefathers were living.

The venue has been divided into various sections named as Souq Waqif, Doha, Al Izba, Al Nasa, Al Shaqab, Al Maqtar, Al Beda and Al Meshabia and so on.

A variety of sports and games for children are also being held as part of the festivities.

The events will take place from 8am to noon and from 3pm to 11pm daily.
