Egyptian wins Sharq cartoon contest

DOHA: More than 400 entries by 158 Arab cartoonists were in the fray at the recently-concluded second edition of Dar Al Sharq’s Arabic cartoon competition. Seventy-two of the best entries at the cartoon contest are displayed at an exhibition at the 24th Doha International Book Fair, which opened yesterday at the Doha International Exhibition Center.

Of the 408 entries, the jury chose the top three winners. Maher Rashwan of Egypt won the first prize while Palestinians Dr Alaa Allaqta and Mohammad Saba’ana bagged the second and third prizes respectively. The winners will receive QR50,000; QR30,000 and QR20,000 and certificates, respectively.

The cartoon exhibition is open to the public until December 14.
