Sphinex, Katara team up to run 5-star hotel

DOHA: Sphinex Hotels & Resorts for Touristic Assets Management yesterday signed an agreement with Katara Hospitality Organisation, for the management of the Merweb Plaza Hotel.

Saeed Abdulla Al Kaabi, President of Sphinex Hotels & Resorts for Touristic Assets Management signed the agreement with Katara Hospitality Chairman Sheikh Nawaf bin Jassim bin Jabr Al Thani, in the presence of Katara Hospitality President Hamad Al Mulla and Qatar Tourism Authority Chairman Essa Al Mohannadi.

The 5-star Merweb Plaza, situated in Al Sadd area, offers well-equipped rooms and various luxurious hotel services as well as fashion shops, spa and specialty restaurants. 

All rooms feature warm modern colours and equipped with flat screen TV and comfortable seating area. These are sound proof and offer a mini-fridge, WiFi and spacious working areas for business travellers.

Al Kaabi said the agreement would positively contribute to the development of touristic activities in Qatar in line with Qatar National Vision 2030 under the guidance of the Emir H H Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, aimed at building a strong and diversified economy.

He underlined that his company’s action is based on a clear strategy and vision towards bringing the Qatari tourism facilities to the highest international standards proportionally to the global vision of maximising the important means available in the country and marketing them abroad, particularly in the field of business, conference and exhibition tourism, where Qatar has achieved great success.

“Sphinex Hotels & Resorts is a Qatari national company working towards seriously contributing to the development of tourism in Qatar. It is in the process of developing three 5 star, 4 star and 3 star hotels, in addition undergoing feasibility study to construct a world class touristic resort, within the first stage of our strategy to make Sphinex one of the most important Qatari companies working in the field of developing touristic projects.”

Al Kaabi added that Sphinex Hotels & Resorts, which recently signed a cooperation agreement with Best Western International, is looking forward to be a leading force in the local, regional and international levels in hotel management. He said the joint venture with Best Western International plans to develop 400 hotel rooms every year, for the next five years to meet the increasing demand for various hotel services in the promising Qatari market.
